At Focus Engine, we value your privacy and believe you should maintain ownership of your intellectual assets. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, process, and protect your data when you interact with our web applications, local desktop synchronizers, and databases.
1. Information We Collect
We restrict data collection to the absolute minimum necessary to provide the subscription workspace features:
- Account Credentials: We collect your email address and a hashed password when you create an account to process synchronization requests and subscription activations.
- Synchronization Content: If you use notes cloud synchronization, our server stores copies of your text notes, folders, and categories. All database exchanges are encrypted in transit via SSL/TLS.
- Billing Transactions: For paid subscriptions, checkout information (email, payment method) is managed by Stripe, PayPal, or Wise. We do not store or inspect credit card numbers, billing addresses, or banking details.
- Usage Logs: We gather basic technical parameters (such as browser agents and sync timestamps) to resolve server sync conflicts and debug system crashes.
2. Local-First Privacy Shield
Local Control: All your active project steps, habit checklists, and local markdown files are kept primarily in your browser's client-side sandboxed storage. If you choose not to sign up for a cloud account, your data never reaches our servers and remains completely isolated on your physical machine.
3. How We Use and Share Your Data
We do not rent, sell, or trade your data or notes to marketing brokers, advertisers, or third parties under any circumstances. We process your data solely to:
- Deliver cross-device note sync services.
- Process subscription states and renewals.
- Deliver secure OTP login codes and email notifications.
- Maintain application stability and combat malicious system abuses.
4. Data Security
We utilize industry-standard measures to keep your data secure:
- All cloud data is hosted on secure web servers with firewall policies.
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard BCRYPT algorithms.
- Public note sharing links are securely structured with unpredictable cryptographically-generated tokens, preventing search indexers from crawling your private notes.
5. Your Rights and Access Control
You maintain full control over your synchronized content at all times:
- Access and Export: You can download your data or sync folders directly as markdown files.
- Deletion: Disabling public note sharing immediately revokes access to the shared link. Deleting your cloud account deletes all associated note databases from our backup servers.
6. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to align with new compliance standards or database features. Any significant changes will be notified directly in the app or via the email address on your account.
